Ray: Hello travelers and welcome to Tails From the Dark Dragons Inn Season 2, Episode 1: A Dire Journey. I hope you’ve enjoyed our side quests as these are just a hint of things to come. In July, we’ll be releasing new content every other week in addition to our campaign, featuring a broad variety of casts from across the tabletop RPG community. For this season we have new artwork supplied by Pearlesqued and our very own music composed and recorded by Simon Pho, to whom we owe a great debt of thanks.

This week, we have everyone onboard as our heroes make their way to Elturel. We have Vinny as Mhurren, the half-orc monk. Nina as Myx, the aasimar warlock of the fey. Tom as Erbak, the lizardfolk wizard. Liz as Tobe, the Raven Queen warlock tiefling. We also have The Doomsinger, the mysteriously masked elven bard and Scraw, the bugbear barbarian, played by me, Ray, your host and Gamemaster, and I also play, well … Just about everyone else.

GM: it’s not too uncommon for a large travelling caravan to do things like, hire people to work for them, to help protect the caravans, to take passengers on to bigger cities. People pay for space on the caravan, so they can travel with ease and not have to travel the roads on their own and by foot.

GM: and Sundown is approaching when your wagon train tops a rise and you see the town of Greenest just a few short miles away.

However.

Instead of the pleasant welcoming town you expected, you see large plumes of black smoke rising from burning buildings. Running figures that are little more than dots at this distance and various small shapes whirling their way through the skies, low over the keep that rises above the centre of the town.

Greenest is under attack.

GM: You are all blinded by a flash of blue lightning. You’ve seen this attack before when you were at the keep. You watched as Lennithon obliterated guardsmen who were on the walls. Comparatively, that was at a distance. Up close, you’ve never seen anything like this. The volume of lightning that is belched forth from this creature is astonishing. The beam [thunder cracks], it’s more like a storm, crashes forwards and rips through the group of strangers that surround you. You watch as they are utterly vaporized. [rain and thunder continue ambiently] For a moment, you feel relief, until the lightning continues, and one by one, you fall to the ground.
